How in 2008 can any weather storm kill 100,000 people? How can a government let this happen? And to think President Bush was crucified and hung for Katrina with 6 days warning and a corrupt New Orleans mayor that would not evacuate 100,000 people dependent on government to wake them everyday! And we want to send aid.....Bulshit! Corruption??
The number of people dead or missing as a result of the cyclone that struck Burma at the weekend was likely to exceed 100,000, the US said on Wednesday night.
A senior US official said the administration had been told of the likely toll but warned that any efforts to accurately estimate the number of casualties was complicated by the fact that Burma had not compiled a census for seven decades.
The grim forecast came as United Nations agencies expressed frustration that their efforts to help the 1m survivors in need were being hindered by the junta’s reluctance to let foreign experts into the country.
Five days after tropical cyclone Nargis devastated the rice-growing Irrawaddy delta and battered its largest city, emergency water, food, tents and other relief materials have trickled in from neighbouring countries.
But the UN still awaits military permission for 40 disaster relief experts to bring emergency aid to remote areas where it is most needed.
