Maybe it was the loneliness? Maybe it was the complete isolation? Maybe it was the young people sacrificing themselves beyond our own selfishness? Maybe it was the hard work 18 hours a day? Maybe it was just the Marine without a family except the Marine Corp, and his determination to be the best Marine possible? Maybe it was once upon a time in some and all of us? Maybe it was the light rock music that grabbed your core and would not let go. Maybe it was that we are just so polarized as a Nation that only some can be so damn proud of these Men and Women that I sat and could not peel away from "Carrier"
I was told by the old Salt from Vietnam in the break room that I should watch this. So I went home and set the PVR and could not find the time to walk away from 10 hours of some of the best documentary I've seen, EVER!
Maybe it just that I sat a cried never so proud and reflecting on how great America is!

I was a carrier sailor - another lifetime ago.
Thanks for posting this. I am going to pinch it because it helps me remember what I'm about.
I see that some of the pilots seem to complain a bit about having not dropped any bombs...that maybe mission not accomplished, not so. I/we were there and we accomplished things for you and believe it or not you were our protection. Many times when terrorists see an F-18, 14, or Prowler, (when they got low enough), they knew they we weren't far behind, and that we were coming to get 'em!
Great show and it was nice to see the friendships that were founded in that 6 months. Friendships that are forged for life!
In spite of the producer arrogantly calling the crew 'kids', this is a great opportunity for America and the world to see how the men and women of the U.S. Navy and Marines come together as a team, and focus on one goal; to protect the United States from foreign and domestic enemies by “putting a piece of precision ordinance on a target per national tasking”, and do it with incredible style and finesse!
Go Navy!
And I guess I missed the sublties you pointed out. I was enjoying the people more.
The Marines keep it afloat?!?! What kind of whacky tobacky are you smokin?!?
They can't even figure out Port and Starboard, and think the 'Fantail' is what a male Peacock wears!
